A man wanted on warrants led police on a high-speed chase from downtown Cape Girardeau, along county roads before ending near the Procter & Gamble plant on Highway 177.

The chase began about 8:30 p.m. Monday when Michael Hinton sped off after Officer Brandon Farmer attempted to stop him, said Sgt. Rick Price of the Cape Girardeau police department.

Hinton fled at speeds up to 100 miles per hour on Highway 177, turning onto several county roads before returning to the state highway where Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers brought his car to a halt with spikes that deflated his tires, Price said.

Hinton and his passenger, Amanda Zimmerman, ran into a wooded area where they were tracked by K-9 officer Jeff Bourbon, Price said.

Hinton, 27, is wanted on warrants for auto theft, failure to appear on charges of possessing and selling drugs, and resisting arrest. Zimmerman, 19, is wanted on a warrant out of Bollinger County for selling drugs and has recently been charged in Cape Girardeau on four misdemeanor counts including marijuana possession, resisting arrest and tampering with evidence.
