Joey Mack of Benton placed 11th in the final standings for the Mid America Racing Series, a late model tour based in Batesville, Ark.

Mack, a former rookie of the years on the MARS circuit, finished ninth in the tour's final event of the season Saturday at Wheatland, Mo. He followed the tour for 30 events through Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi and Oklahoma.

Steve Rushin of Poplar Bluff, Mo., was 10th in the final standings, which were topped by Bill Frye of Greenbrier, Ark.

Mack returned closer to home to finish second behind Steve Karnes of Marion, Ill., Sunday at Auto Tire and Parts Racepark near Benton.

Sprint, late model events highlight weekend

A pair of special events will send area racers to tracks in Farmington and Pevely this weekend.

The Queen's Royale sprint event is scheduled for Saturday at St. Francois County Raceway near Farmington. The season-ending event is worth $5,000 to its winner. The card also will feature 360 cubic-inch sprints and multis. Racing is at 7 p.m.

Up the road, I-55 Raceway near Pevely will host the final United Midwestern Promoters late model event of the season Saturday night. The event is worth $15,000 to its winner. Modifieds also will compete.

ATPR goes idle for next two weeks

ATPR has called off its events the next two weekends because of scheduling conflicts.

Track promoter Jerry Wolsey said this week's event that was to be headlined by late models and modifieds was canceled becaused of events at SFCR and I-55 Raceway. Because the rain date for the Queen's Royale is Oct. 11, Wolsey said ATPR's sprint event scheduled that night also was called off.

The track will return with the Pure Street Nationals on Oct. 18 and a demolition derby the following weekend.

Elsewhere

Chris Hall of Sikeston was fourth in Saturday's modified feature at Paducah (Ky.) Raceway.

Malden Speedway's final season points champions: Bart Richards (modifieds), Johnny Houart (pure street), Tony Anglin (hobby stock) and Billy James (late model).

Jerrod Hull of Sikeston slipped to third in the final Sprint Invaders tour standings. Hull missed the series' final event of the season Saturday in Iowa and fell from second.

Billy James was third out of 42 entries Friday in a 40-lap late model special event at Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park.
