WEST PLAINS, Mo. -- A package containing an explosive device and addressed to the town's police department was discovered in the post office and rendered safe, according to U.S. postal inspector Dan Taylor. West Plains is in Howell County in the south central part of the state.

A postal employee noticed the "suspicious package" addressed to the West Plains Police Department on Friday and notified police.

The Missouri Highway Patrol Bomb Unit was called in and rendered the package safe soon after X-raying the package and confirming that it contained an explosive device.

No one was injured.

A reward of $100,000 has been issued by the Postal Service for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
