Lorene S. Maevers passed to her eternal home Monday, June 4, 2007, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born in New Hamburg, Mo., Oct. 9, 1912, to Alphonse and Katie Hahn Schwartz. She was the oldest of two children. Her brother, Phillip, passed away in 1994.

She was married to Lawrence Maevers in 1933, having one child who survives, Betty Lou Ryan Vogel. Her husband preceded her in death in 2000.

She worked at International Shoe Co. 24 years as a piece worker, retiring in 1956 to eventually take care of her grandchildren that she adored, Gregory Ryan, Bradley Ryan, and Janice Ryan Martin, as their mother worked. As time marched on, she also was instrumental in the care of her great-grandchild, Nicholas Ryan, who was the delight of his "Mommo and Poppo." This indeed extended their lust for life.

She leaves this earth giving many smiles to many who passed her life. She was a long resident of the Lutheran Home, never frowning, forever happy in spite of the fact she was confined to her wheelchair after breaking both hips. Her mind was not always there, but her spirit never left. God always gave her a happy disposition.

She will be forever missed by her family, but we are so blessed with the thought "today thou shall be with me in paradise." Go, Mom, give Dad a hug for me, too!

She is survived by her daughter, Betty Lou (husband Don), three grandchildren, Gregory Ryan, Bradley Ryan, Janice Ryan Martin (husband Tim); seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas Ryan, Natalie Ryan, Eli Ryan, Rachel Ryan, Tanner Ryan, Mellisa Martin and Michelle Martin.

God has blessed you and us with an unexpected rapid departure to your eternal home. We shall miss you, but you are home with family. Love you. XXO.

Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral.
