Vern "Bunny" Sebastian, 82, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at Jackson Manor in Jackson.

He was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Jackson, son of the late Louis H. and Cora B. Burgfeld Sebastian. He and Viola M. Welty were married Feb. 27, 1943, in Jackson.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army June 15, 1943, and was honorably discharged Jan. 8, 1946, as a staff sergeant.

Bunny was a lifelong member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson. He had worked at the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson, the former Hahs Ford Co. in Jackson, Friedrich Used Cars, Midwest Dairy in Cape Girardeau, Jackson Police Department, Cape County Sheriff's Department, and for 15 years at Procter & Gamble Paper Products in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of Jackson Masonic Lodge, Cape Girardeau VFW Post 3838 and Jackson American Legion.

Loving survivors include his wife, Viola, of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Wayne Parenteau of Jackson; a sister, Vergie (Ted) Drum of Jackson; three granddaughters, Aimee (David) Gilbertson of Jackson, Gina (Ben) Bishop of Laurel, Mont., Tara (Jason) Morris of Jackson; a grandson, Ryan (fiancee Emily Bealke) Parenteau of Kirkwood, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Elayna.

He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Rusby Adams.

Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. An American Legion service will be held at 7, followed by a Masonic service at 7:30. Visitation will continue Friday at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and after 1 p.m. at Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery, with graveside VFW service and military honors.
