Valerie Porterfield, 86, of St. Louis died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003.

She was born May 9, 1917, at Campbell, Mo., daughter of John Maynard and Clarice Lawrence Stanley. She and Russell Porterfield were married in November 1974 in Sun City, N.M. He died in 1987.

Porterfield was a graduate of the University of Illinois. Formerly of Jackson and Cape Girardeau, she retired as a director of medical records.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Fridenberg of Springfield, Mo., Jan Perkins of Warrenton, Mo.; a son, Stanley Cargill of Portland, Ore.; a brother, the Rev. Richard Freeman of Texarkana, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister.

There is no visitation.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. Matthew's Church in Warson Woods, Mo. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery in Campbell. The Rev. Freeman will officiate.

Landess Funeral Home at Campbell is in charge of arrangements.
