Religious leaders will hold planning meeting

Cape Girardeau and Jackson area religious leaders plan to meet Thursday to plan an interfaith forum on immigration reform. The planning meeting is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. "Our goal is to help the faith community explore the biblical values that relate to this issue," said Donald Emge, director of social ministries for the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese. The meeting is open to all area pastors and religious leaders, Emge said.

Route CC, U.S. 61 down to one lane for repairs

Sections of two local roads will be reduced to one lane by MoDOT work today and Thursday. A section of Route CC from Route C to the end of state maintenance on Route CC will be reduced to one lane from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today as crews seal the pavement. U.S. 61 will be reduced to one lane at its intersection with Route D from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday while the roadway is patched. Cape, Jackson municipal bands perform concerts

The Cape Girardeau Municipal Band will have its weekly concert at 8 p.m. today and the Jackson Municipal Band will perform its weekly concert at 8 p.m. Thursday. Special guest entertainment for tonight's concert will be provided by Jay Landers on accordion, and the band will perform selections from John Philip Sousa, Richard Wagner and Gilbert and Sullivan. The concert will take place at the Capaha Park band shell. The Jackson band will feature pianist Roger Blankenship, worship leader at the Bread of Life Restoration Center, as its special guest performer. The band will perform marches from Sousa and J.L. King along with selections from "Pirates of the Caribbean" and early rock 'n' roll tunes. The concert will take place at the Jackson City Park band shell.
