Way off base

TO THE person who said we "need a Republican governor like we need another four years of this nightmare Republican president's administration. We'll all be in the poorhouse." I pity you. Never have I seen someone more off base than this. I am not poor. The president didn't give me a job. I went out and found one. That is something I am proud of. I don't share this feeling with those of you who are able to work and don't apply for jobs, relying on the government for your pay. That is the definition of laziness. I believe in unemployment pay, but there should be a short time limit. I am tired of hearing people complain because the government isn't giving them enough money. The president can't do a whole lot about jobs without the help of Congress. Both the House and Senate must approve any bill. There are many bills that never make it to the president.

Not our place

ONE WOULD think that David Limbaugh would get tired of talking about abortion, Christian persecution and liberal bias in the media. I guess he just doesn't have anything else to discuss since there is no Democrat in the White House for him to chastise. I am proof that a person can be a Democrat and have some liberal views and still be a fair and honest Christian. Limbaugh has tantrums if the government says a business can or cannot do this, but he thinks it's OK for a woman to be told that she cannot have an abortion. I do not agree with abortion, but it isn't my place to tell someone else she can't have one. It's not your place either, Mr. Limbaugh.

Not just one story

I AM sickened to the point of no return. When Rush Limbaugh slipped up on ESPN, it caused a bad situation. However, the media only fed the hunger of liberals ready to crucify Limbaugh by acting like this so-called drug investigation and his leaving ESPN were related. The Southeast Missourian, KFVS, CBS and NBC all talked about both topics in the same story as if they are one story. Limbaugh should not have said what he did, but he speaks his mind. That is why he was hired by ESPN. The network wanted to spice things up. Ratings were up while Limbaugh was there. But shame on those who act like the drug investigation and his quitting ESPN were related. That is faulty reporting. Limbaugh is a man of his word. He is entitled to his opinion. It is up to his sponsors what is tolerated and what is not. He is not a drug addict.

Time for a change

LET'S TAKE a look at where our country is headed. We have a virtual World War III going on in the Middle East. Many people in our own country are unemployed and living in poverty. The lowest tax bracket in the world is for those who make half a million bucks a year or more. We have the worst health care in the civilized world for those who have no money and no insurance. And we have a No Child Left Behind program that no school district in the country can afford right now. If Republicans are all big-hearted Christians like they claim to be, why are they letting this continue? I hope to see George W. Bush on a plane back to Crawford, Texas, on Jan. 20, 2005.

Still getting calls

I AM on the Do Not Call list, and I am still getting three to seven phone calls a night from telemarketers who hang up right after I answer the phone. It is very frustrating. This is harassment.

His liberal friends

I'M SURE many people in this town read David Limbaugh's column habitually and with much delight. You conservatives love to have someone stand up and ruthlessly attack anyone who is liberal or a Democrat. In one of his latest articles, Limbaugh suggests on one hand that he has many liberal friends who are Christians, and on the other hand he is condescending toward them by inviting them to join the "right" political side. Is this what Jesus teaches? What Bible does Limbaugh read? In fact, had Limbaugh been around 2,000 years ago, he probably would have stood with the Pharisees in condemnation of our Lord and Savior.
