PATTON, Mo. -- Russell Clyde Cook Sr., 86, of Patton died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at his home.

He was born Nov. 30, 1920, at Mayfield, Mo., son of James Luther and Flora Adeline Mayfield Cook. He and Alene V. Mayfield were married June 12, 1943. She died Feb. 4, 1990.

Cook was a farmer and had also worked at a sawmill, International Shoe Co., Atlas Plastics Co., and was a bus driver for Meadow Heights School District.

He was a member of Marble Hill Church of Christ and was song leader many years. He served on Pulliam Cemetery Board, was a member of Gospel Harmonizers Quartet and was a past member of Meadow Heights School Board.

Cook was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was awarded a Purple Heart and the Victory Medal.

Survivors include two sons, Russell Cook Jr. of Patton, Mark Cook of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Carolyn Tretten of Reno, Nev., Sharon Orrell of Jackson; two sisters, Melba Fulbright of Marble Hill, Mo., Thelma Bollinger of Jackson; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three granddaughters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Patton.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Gerald Cowen officiating. Burial will be in Pulliam Cemetery near Marble Hill, with full military honors provided by Missouri Military Honors Team.
