Scott County wins state championship

Scott County won the Cal Ripken state tournament 11-year olds division over the weekend in Chaffee.

Scott County beat SEMO North 5-2 in the title game. The team will compete in the regional tournament, beginning today, in Grand Forks, N.D.

Keen scores hole in one at Jaycees course

Justin Keen used an 8-iron to card a hole in one Saturday on the 157-yard hole No. 3 at the Cape Jaycees Municipal Golf Course.

Rose, Massa team to win horseshoe event

Terri Rose and Mike Massa took first place at the Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association tournament at the Knights of Columbus club in Jackson on Sunday.

Rick Garland and Carolyn Schreckenberg took second while Cori Stoverink and Jacob Vandeven were third.

Sally Broughton and Ron LeGrand won the tournament July 15 at the Knights of Columbus in Oran.

Garland and Melody Williams were second while Brad Miller and Darrel Vandeven were third.

Foursome fires 59 to winDalhousie scramble

The team of Val Crader, Jason Banderman, Mark Martin and Bob Englehart carded a 59 to win the Young Life scramble tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club on Monday.

The foursome of Tim Singleton, Tom Singleton, Todd Eastin and Rich Benton finished second at 60. Placing another stroke back was the team of Mark Diamond, Casey VanWinkle, Jay Jarius and Wayne Jean.

Closest-to-the-hole winners were Frank Farrington (No. 5) and James Green (No. 13). VanWinkle (No. 16) won the longest drive and Louis Bock (No. 18) sank the longest putt.
