Area teams in Class 1, 2 and 4 will send runners to the state cross country meet after they qualified through Saturday's round.

Saxony Lutheran's boys and Notre Dame's boys will go as teams after they finished in the top two of their events.

Class 1: Saxony's first-year varsity program outscored runner-up Clopton by 19 points to win its sectional. It also was a state-qualifying day for several other area runners, including Joel Hahs, a Meadow Heights runner who won the individual title in 17:59.3 to qualify for the state meet Saturday at Jefferson City.

Trey Maevers led Saxony in second (17:59.6). Kevin Bartles of Delta was third. Others who were in the top 15 and qualified for the state meet: Oak Ridge's Terry Bogenpohl in seventh, and Delta's Kevin Bartles in third and Aaron Kinder in 12th.

Saxony's Brandon Etzold was fifth and Kory Mueller 13th.

Meadow Heights and Oak Ridge tied for third. The top two teams qualified for the team competition.

Among girls teams, Oak Ridge's Melinda Schoen was second, Sam Zoellner sixth and Alicia Kellogg 14th to qualify. Angie Green led Delta in 19th.

Class 2: Notre Dame's boys team qualified for the state event for the first time by finishing second to Herculaneum. Kelly was third.

Kelly's Michael Glastetter won the individual title in 17:29.2. Trey Simmons was third. For Notre Dame, Sam Montgomery was fifth, Ryan Roggow seventh, Austin Critchlow eighth, Matt Pfau 12th and Greg Kanneberg 13th.

Among girls, Notre Dame's Brooke Beussink was 14th, and Notre Dame's Emily Strobel was 13th.

Class 4: Central's girls cross country team finished fifth at Jefferson Barracks National Park.

Jenifer Pancoast (fourth), Holly Shaffer (18th) and Linnea Woldtvedt (19th) qualified for the state meet, although the Tigers missed qualifying as a team.

Central's boys also finished fifth overall, and John Kipper was the only individual to qualify for the state meet.

Jackson's girls finished behind Central in sixth. Ashley Meyr (20), Rachel Shmidt (26) and Rachel Lowes (30) each qualified individually.

BOYS' SOCCER

Notre Dame 10, Hancock 0

Notre Dame played its junior varsity roster much of the way and defeated Hancock in the first round of the Class 2, District 1 boys soccer tournament at Notre Dame.

Jonathan Market led the Bulldogs with a hat trick. Notre Dame advanced to face Sikeston in the semifinals.

Jason Delgado and Tyler Legrand had a goal and an assist each. Frankie Ellis, Elliot Vance, Kirk Boeller, Frank Blasiney and Kyle Shade each scored a goal for the Bulldogs. Blake Fisher, Jacob Dufek, Chris Meyer and Clayton Legrand each had an assist.

Notre Dame will play Sikeston at 7 p.m. Monday, and Hillsboro will play St. Pius at 5 p.m. in the other semifinal.
