US Bank recently donated $500 to the Saint Francis Foundation.

Contra dance will feature styling tips

The Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance will hold a contra dance from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain St., with guest caller Mac McKeever, who will offer styling tips throughout the evening. McKeever has been president of the St. Louis contra dance group since 1991. "The Old Cornlickers" (Billy Oploh on fiddle, Cathie Paull on guitar, and guests) are the featured musicians. All moves taught and the dances walked through. Everyone is welcome. Entomologist speaks about dragonflies

Entomologist Kent Fothergill entomologist will discuss the life history of dragonflies at 3 p.m. Saturday at Big Oak Tree State Park's picnic shelter. For more information, call (573) 649-3149.

Trail of Tears has Labor Day weekend events

Trail of Tears State Park will have an "Amazing Fish" program at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and a 7 p.m. program, "Evening of Storytelling," at the amphitheater under the stars. At 9:30 a.m. Monday, hikers can meet at the Overlook Gate for a two-mile hike led by the park naturalist. For more information, call 334-1711.

Labor Day festival will be at Community Center

Labor Day festival events begin with a 6:30 a.m. pancake breakfast Monday at the Horseshoe Lake Community Center in Olive Branch, Ill. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs, nachos, funnel cakes, a bake sale and drinks available. Craft and collectible item booths and children's games will be set up along with music at the pavilion. Gospel singers will be featured in the morning, and BVD Country Classic Band will perform in the afternoon. Hunter education class offered in Scott City

There will be a Missouri Department of Education hunter education class from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the First Assembly of God Church Gym, 312 Dearborn St. in Scott City. It will include firing on a BB gun range and many hands-on activities. There will be on-site enrollment for ages 11 and up.

Superior Electric holds reunion Sept. 8

All former employees and family will meet at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 8 at Cape County Park shelter No. 21 for the Superior Electric reunion. Participants should bring lunch.

NARFE chapter meets Sept. 11 in Perryville

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1237, will meet at noon Sept. 11 at the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Perryville, Mo. Current and retired federal employees in Perry, Ste. Genevieve, and Cape Girardeau counties are encouraged to attend. There will be a program and a 50/50 drawing. Olmsted village hosts catfish days Sept. 14, 15

The village of Olmsted, Ill., will hold catfish days beginning with a fishing tournament from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 14 at the river landing. An antique tractor show will begin the day at 9 a.m. Sept. 15, followed by an 11 a.m. parade and 1 p.m. garden tractor pull.
