CARMI, Ill. -- Enola Gabel, 103, of Carmi passed away at 3:35 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi.

She was born Aug. 21, 1904, in rural Carmi, the daughter of Benjamin and Theresa (Rebstock) Gabel. She was a farmer and a homemaker.

Surviving are a son-in-law, Ivan Elliott of Burnt Prairie, Ill.; two grandchildren, Jim and wife Cathy Elliott of Princeton, Ind., and Barbara and husband Lou Hagler of Cape Girardeau; six great-grandchildren, Louis and Cheryl Hagler, and Sara, Jennifer, Chelsea and Taylor Elliott; a niece, Dortohy Duffin of Burnt Prairie; two nephews, Charles Frederick Pierce of Carmi and Amos Pierce of Oxnard, Calif.; and a good friend, Frank Musgrave of Carmi.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Joyce "Betty" Elliott; four brothers, Thomas Sylvester "Bud" Gabel, Frank Anton, John J. and Victor Gabel; and two sisters, Elizabeth Gabel and Catherine Elizabeth "Kate" Pierce.

Funeral Mass for Enola Gabel, 103, of Carmi, will be Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Polycarp Catholic Church in Carmi with the Rev. Stephen Rudolphi officiating. Burial will be in St. Polycarp Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. A prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
