Central's boys basketball team set up a showdown with one of the state's premier teams in the championship game of the Farmington Tournament.

The Tigers improved to 2-0 Friday night with a 73-37 semifinal rout of New Madrid County Central and will face Hazelwood Central from St. Louis at 7:30 tonight for the title.

Hazelwood Central features 6-foot-8, 260-pound senior forward Kalen Grimes, who is regarded as one of the nation's top 100 high school players and has signed with the University of Missouri.

Central has a talented 6-8 player of its own in junior Scott Chestnutt, who scored 17 points Friday. Ryan Delph led the Tigers with 20 points, and Alex Ray added 11.

The Tigers led just 17-14 after one quarter but dominated the rest of the game. It was 36-24 at halftime and 60-34 entering the final period.

"We came out fired up tonight," Central coach Derek McCord said. "We feel very good with our defense."

MICDS 65, Notre Dame 49The Bulldogs fell to 0-2 with a lopsided loss to host Mary Institute-Country Day School of St. Louis.

Notre Dame fell behind 28-13 at halftime and trailed 46-31 after three quarters. The Bulldogs pulled to within 53-45 late but MICDS won going away.

Jackson 46, Eureka 29In a Farmington Tournament game from late Thursday, Jackson picked up its first win and will play Riverview Gardens at 1:30 p.m. today in the consolation final.

The Indians (1-1) got 14 points from both Jack Puisis and Ryan Mirly.

Oran TournamentThe Lance Amick coaching era at Scott City got off to a rousing start as the top-seeded Rams captured the title with a 59-56 victory over No. 2 Bell City.

Mark Dannenmueller scored 22 points to lead the Rams (3-0), who also got 17 points from Tyler Ward and 10 from Ryan Glastetter. Dannenmueller hit four 3-pointers.

Senior guard Dominitrix Johnson concluded a brilliant tournament by leading the Cubs (2-1) with 31 points. Johnson scored 37 and 36 points in his other tournament games. Jeff Liggins added 10 points Friday.

A 23-15 Scott City advantage in the third quarter erased a 26-24 halftime deficit. The Rams hit 19 of 24 free throws in the game while the Cubs made eight of 16.

Third-seeded Twin Rivers defeated fifth-seeded Scott County Central 75-67 in the third-place game. Michael Lance led Twin Rivers (2-1) with 28 points. Chris Pullen paced the Braves (1-2) with 25 points, followed by Andrew Pullen with 11 and Avis White with 10.

Fourth-seeded Kelly won the consolation title (fifth place) by beating seventh-seeded Richland 88-66. Chris Romas led the Hawks (2-1) with 23 points and Brook Edmonds added 20. Also in double figures were Trey Simmons with 14 and Kendall Deason with 12.
