Scout builds grotto for Eagle project

A Grotto of St. Mary was recently dedicated at St. Mary Cathedral, Cape Girardeau. Built in memory of Albertine Fisher, a longtime teacher at the grade school, the project was the result of an Eagle Scout project created by James Williams of Boy Scout Troop 16.Southeast Missourian

A 10-foot-by-7-foot structure of pink granite stone obtained from the old Catholic Seminary was created into a Grotto of Mary and dedicated recently at St. Mary Cathedral in Cape Girardeau. The ceremony began with Mass at 8 a.m.

Seeking an Eagle Scout project to meet his requirements, an inquiry was made by James Williams of Boy Scout Troop 16. Officials expressed a desire in creating the grotto in memory of Albertine Fisher, a longtime teacher at the grade school.

The structure was built over a seven month period and included the help of many volunteers. James lives in Westlake Meadows, just outside Cape Girardeau. He is the son of Daniel and Marsha Williams of Cape Girardeau.
