Eastside Homemakers

The Eastside Homemakers met Dec. 17, at Delmonico's Restaurant in Jackson. After lunch a meeting was held. Maxine Southard gave the devotion, "Christmas is the Season of our Heart."

Betty Butler read "Sense of Humor," Janet Piepenbrok read the article "Where did all the decades go?" and Loretta Atkins read "Christmas in the Netherlands." Southard led the group in a Christmas game.

The Jan. 21 meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside Regional Library.

Young Americans 4-H Club

The Young Americans 4-H Club met Dec. 18 at Heartland Care Center where they sang Christmas carols for the residents. They then went to Grace United Methodist Church for the meeting. Clint Heuer, president, called the meeting to order. Blake Telle and Lindsey Ostendorf led the pledges. December birthdays were recognized.

Julia Weber read the minutes from the last meeting. Michael Weber gave the treasurer's report. Leslie Birk reported there was a horsemanship meeting with four members present. Truman Kinsey reported a Foods A meeting was held Dec. 16, with three members.

Valentines for the military were collected and will be sent the second week of January. Diane Schweer will take the canned food donated by the club to the Jackson Ministerial Alliance.

Orders for club T-shirts for new members will be taken at the next meeting.

Donna Telle gave a short talk on filling out report forms. Songs were led by Joseph Yuede.

The next meeting will be Jan. 15. Demonstrations will be given by Julia Weber, Tori Schweer, Jessica Schabbing, Whitney Ostendorf, Blake Telle, and Heuer. A trip to Mingo Wildlife Refuge is planned for Feb. 1. Clover Kid Camp will be held June 6.

The meeting was followed by a Christmas party and ornament exchange.

St. Mary CCW

The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met Dec. 18 for a covered-dish supper. A brief meeting was held. Thanks to all who worked to make the Christmas Craft and Bake Sale a success.

Following the Christmas Novena, the group returned to the Msgr. Huels Room for a Christmas social. Instead of a gift exchange, books for children were collected.

The first meeting of 2004 will be held Jan. 15 in the Msgr. Huels Room. Ellen Shuck, director of Religious Education, will present the program.

Arnsberg 4-H Club

The Arnsberg 4-H Club met Dec. 4 at Friedheim Trinity Lutheran Church Hall. President Jessica Seyer presided over the meeting. Grace Fox and Kyle Rohde led in singing Christmas carols. Micah Burge led the pledges.

The members collected items to send to Toys for Tots. Items were sent to Southeast Missouri Hospital to give to children that are in the hospital over the holidays. School supplies were collected to send to a pastor in Iraq that is presently teaching children there. It was decided by the members at the previous meeting to give to these causes instead of exchanging gifts.

The Health Activity Committee reported that Scott Givens from Main Street Fitness in Jackson will come to the January meeting to do an activity with the group.

Following the meeting, the members held their Christmas bingo game.

Rose Hills Garden Club

Rose Hills Garden Club met Dec. 15 in the home of Kathi Marchi. Co-hostesses were Dori Lage and Joyce Chirnside. The December meeting is the club's "Make, Bake and Take Fund-raiser." Club projects for the year are funded from these monies.

The next meeting will be held at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at Port Cape Girardeau. Officers for 2004 will be installed.
