A 25th anniversary "Mountain Top Experience" celebration is being held this month at St. Andrew Lutheran Church; the Rev. John Hilpert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hilpert of Cape Girardeau, is guest speaker at today's worship services; he is a charter member of St. Andrew and is the oldest of four sons of the congregation who have become Lutheran pastors.

Cape Girardeau Central's running game proved unstoppable Friday, as the Tigers ground out a 28-7 victory over the Jackson Indians in their annual SEMO North Conference rivalry.

50 years ago: Oct. 10, 1957

Standley & Co., the steel-fabricating firm that recently acquired the former Central Tank Co. property in South Cape Girardeau, expects to begin production about Nov. 11; the firm will construct belt conveyors, storage bins, and screw conveyors.

The Water Street section of the floodwall to protect the Main Street Levee Improvement District will be approximately 25 feet down the cobblestone wharf from the center of existing Frisco tracks, and the top of the wall will be from 21 to 22 feet above street level.

75 years ago: Oct. 10, 1932

Denver M. Wright, who proposes to stage a lion hunt in Southeast Missouri, looks over available sites for the hunt; he's considering several locations and might not stage the hunt in Mississippi County, the place deemed most likely.

Vangilder Day was celebrated yesterday at Fairground Park, with the Capahas punching out a 10-2 victory over a galaxy of St. Louis baseball stars; along with Elam Vangilder, home from a successful season in the American Baseball Association, George H. Sisler, one-time batting king of the majors, plays the entire game at first base for the locals.

100 years ago: Oct. 10, 1907

The barn of Herman Akermann, three miles north of Allenville, burned Tuesday night; two horses and a new surrey, costing $150, were burned, together with farming implements, hay and grain.

The big shoe factory is certainly getting started in great shape and will in a few days be turning out the finished product; every department is now in operation with the exception of the finishing and packing rooms.
