Three Heartland Care and Rehab residents were recently awarded certificates for their essays on "Advancing Excellence: A Resident's Perspective on Quality," sponsored by the National Consumer for Quality Long-Term Care.

This year the National Citizens' Coalition for Nurisng Home Reform challenged residents to submit a drawing, poem, essay or photo relating to their perspective on quality care for National Long-Term Care Residents' Rights Week, celebrated from Oct. 7 to 13.

Recognizing the importance of individuality and the need to understand how personal preference affects care, the NCCNHR asked residents what quality meant to them.
