BOSTON (AP) -- A doctor allegedly linked to the deaths of ten patients at a veteran's hospital in southern Illinois has been permanently barred from practicing medicine in Massachusetts.

The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine says it's accepted the resignation of Jose Veizaga-Mendez (vy-ZAH'-gah MEN'-dez) to renew his medical license.

That decision is a disciplinary action that permanently removes a physician from the practice of medicine.

Veizaga-Mendez was under investigation in Massachusetts on suspicion of botching seven cases, two of which ended in deaths, before he relocated to Marion, Illinois. He opted to resign instead.

The deaths at the VA hospital in Illinois remain under investigation.
