Logan Davis completed his junior season of cross country with another state medal and another team state trophy.

But this year was slightly better for the Notre Dame runner, as he improved his time and his place, and the Bulldogs gained ground on the two programs ahead of them in Class 3.

Davis finished the 3.1-mile course at Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City in 16 minutes, 47 seconds -- the top time for a Southeast Missouri runner at the MSHSAA championships. He improved his time by seven seconds and improved his place from 16th last year to 14th this year.

"I felt tired, but around the second mile, I got a second wind and passed eight people, so that felt good," Davis said.

His run helped Notre Dame to another state trophy, another third-place finish behind defending state champion Potosi and perennial power West Plains. But the Bulldogs closed the gap, finishing just 26 points out of first place.

"Our top four guys really packed well throughout the race," Davis said. "We wanted to get in the top three, and we got it."

Davis has been a state medalist all three years of his high school career, finishing 15th in Class 2 as a freshman.

This year, he also set a course record at Kelly's course in Benton to win the SEMO Conference race and lead Notre Dame to first place there.
