The Rev. Ray Rhyne of Cape Girardeau was recently honored for serving 50 years in the ministry, the celebration taking place at Red Star Baptist Church; after serving from 1932 to 1936 as Red Star's associate pastor, he traveled extensively for the ministry.

Bishop Bernard F. Law of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau has announced that the Rev. Gary Carr will be ordained a Catholic priest at St. Mary's Cathedral Nov. 26; he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Carr of St. Louis County.

50 years ago: Nov. 21, 1957

A long-haired, long-sideburned, pistol-toting bandit forced Cecil Stroder, operator of the Stroder Market at Jackson, to his knees last night while an unseen accomplice rifled the cash register of $36 in cash; Stroder was uninjured.

Nellie Krueger was honored for her long service to teaching in Cape Girar-deau during the annual dinner meeting of the Cape Girardeau Community Teachers Association; she has served six years as a teacher and 41 years as an administrator.

75 years ago: Nov. 21, 1932

Equipment of the Broadway Cafe, operated by John Laskaris at 635 Broadway, was carted away from Cape Girardeau in two motor trucks between 4 and 5 a.m. yesterday; Laskaris told Patrolman W.A. Yount, "I just can't make it, and I don't want to go in the hole."

Houck Field House will be a busy place this winter as there are 25 basketball games already scheduled; of the games now carded, there will be six by the Teachers College Indians, 10 by the College Preps and nine by the Central Tigers.

100 years ago: Nov. 21, 1907

June Glenn of Batesville, Ark., is in Cape Girardeau visiting Mrs. D.A. Glenn and Mrs. Malcom Nesmith.

The Normal School footballers line up against the strong team from Carleton College, and in two 25-minute halves run all over the visitors; the forward pass works so well and so frequently for the Normals that it becomes the rule and not the exception in the game; when time is called, the score stands 40-0; leaving rooters hope that the locals will triumph over the Warrensburg contingent when the two teams meet Thanksgiving Day.
