Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship has been providing therapeutic horseback riding to children and adults living with disabilities since 2001. It is a not-for-profit organization that depends on the generosity of service clubs, private donations and others to help develop and operate the Oak Ridge facility.

Cape West Rotary Club recently presented MVTH with a $20,000 check for handicapped restrooms and other needed amenities. Funds were raised in part by an auction the club held in November. Derieck Hodges, auction committee member, said their commitment to helping fund more projects in 2008 is linked to the belief that helping emerging organizations develop is important.

Construction of a new indoor riding facility began in 2006 but has been delayed by a lack of funding. The facility in use has no heat or air conditioning, but riders have protection from the weather. Now, thanks to Cape West Rotary, it will have sanitary facilities that are handicapped accessible.

Cape West Rotary has contributed to many local projects, including Scouting programs, Boys and Girls Clubs, Rotary Youth Exchange and Group Study Exchange. The club also sponsors international service to help provide humanitarian service.
