SIKESTON, Mo. -- A Sikeston woman was arrested in connection with a Monday shooting.

Pamela A. Fox, 48, of Sikeston, was charged with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action in the shooting of her husband, William L. Fox, 47.

At about 3:50 a.m. Monday, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety received a 911 call from 815 Innsbruck Lane in Sikeston. Fox called and said her husband had been shot accidentally. Upon arrival, officers found William Fox with a single gunshot wound to his head. He was transported to Missouri Delta Medical Center. He is expected to survive.

The Sikeston Criminal Investigation Unit investigated the matter. Initially, Fox said the shooting occurred during an argument as she was trying to get a gun from her husband. She said it was then that she had accidentally shot him. A review of the injury and interviews with both Foxes led detectives to suspect foul play.

On Tuesday, detectives confronted Fox with inconsistencies in her statement. Police said she then confessed to shooting her husband as he slept.

After her confession, New Madrid County Prosecuting Attorney Louie Recker filed charges on Pamela Fox. She was later transferred to the New Madrid County Jail, where she remains with no bond, awaiting her arraignment.

William Fox is in stable condition and is expected to survive.
