New media is a genre of visual arts that usually doesn't get much face time with the First Friday gallery crowd.

But this Friday, one art show will focus exclusively on new media, possibly providing a first introduction for some to this growing visual art genre.

From 5 to 9 p.m. Friday Southeast Missouri State University art instructor Seann Brackin will highlight new media using four projections areas, one visible from the street, at Broadway Books and Roasting Co. The art comes from the Web site freewaves.org, a not-for-profit grassroots organization dedicated to bringing new media art from around the world to the masses.

New media comes in a variety of forms, particularly film and digital video. The Freewaves pieces are international and juried by a committee of artists.

For more information on Freewaves and the Friday night show, watch this video interview with Brackin or visit freewaves.org.
