SEMO District Fair

The annual meeting of SEMO District Fair was held Nov. 6. Three people were elected to the board of directors: Pete Poe, Richard James Jr. and Randy Sinn, all of Cape Girardeau. Chris Weiss of Jackson was reappointed to the board by the Jackson Chamber of Commerce. Bob Blattel and Dave White, both of Chaffee, were reappointed by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.

Volunteer of the year awards were presented to Lanny Schweer and Kim Nothdurft, both of Jackson. The Lifetime Service Award was given to Edwin Peetz Jr. of Jackson.

The board of directors met Nov. 26 to elect officers for 2008. They are: Gary Kight of Advance, president; James K. Sander of Jackson, vice president; Marilyn Schott of Jackson, secretary; Weiss, treasurer; and White, property custodian.

The 153rd SEMO District Fair will be held Sept. 6 through 13.

Lamplighters FCE Club

On Oct. 8, the Lamplighters FCE meeting was held in the home of Teresa Hinkebein. JoAnn Hahs called the meeting to order.

Gayla Volz, Linda Sebaugh, Linda Freeman, Bertha Seyer, Dorothy Hahs, Sharon Bogenpohl and Karen McLane attended the 7 p.m. service of Oak Ridge Baptist Church on Oct. 14 to celebrate FCE Week. The club furnished refreshments for the congregation after the service.

Leader training in Farrar, Mo., on Nov. 2 was attended by Verla Mangels, Freeman, Sebaugh, Hinkebein and Seyer.

The Southeast FCE District will host the MAFCE meeting in September. Suggestions are needed for local talent, auctioneers, local speakers, etc.

Sebaugh gave the program, "Pink Files," which explained some benefits available to the families of veterans.

Bogenpohl was the hostess of the Nov. 15 meeting. Seyer called the meeting to order.

Freeman and McLane reported on the tour of the Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship facilities they took Nov. 6. The club presented the group with a $500 donation.

Space was reserved for a Christmas display at Cape County Park. Sebaugh, Hinkebein and Seyer set the display up.

Roberta Seabaugh mailed the cards and letters for Military Mail. Thank-you notes read from Hinkebein and Birthright.

Jackie Kurre gave a program on styles of grandparenting. Bogenpohl and Meyer gave a program and demonstration on Scherenschmittee, or German paper cutting.

The next program will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 at the home of Seabaugh. Roll call will be a tin with 2 1/2 dozen cookies or candy for exchange. Hahs will install officers for 2008. There will be a gift exchange and drawing of names of 2008 secret pals.

Xi Nu Phi

The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Dec. 4 at the home of Susan Perdue Benton. Discussion was held on the letter members recently received from International Office regarding the increase in the annual membership dues.

The next social event will be in January when members will go to Lambert's in Sikeston, Mo., for dinner. The date will be determined at the next meeting.

The service committee will provide dinner for the American Legion meeting Jan. 16.

Updated copies of the chapter standing rules were distributed.

Sunshine gifts were given out.

Benton presented the program, "How to Set a Holiday Table." Santa Claus and his elf distributed gifts to all present.

The next meeting will be Dec. 18 at the home of Kathy Kiefner for the Christmas party. Members are to bring finger foods, secret pal gifts and a swap gift.
