Teen arrested on charges of sexual molestation

BENTON, Mo. -- An 18-year-old Scott City man was arrested Tuesday by the Scott County Sheriff's Department on charges that he sexually molested a 14-year-old Scott County girl. The sheriff's department sent out a news release Tuesday afternoon saying Marcus A. Bowers was in custody and charged with second-degree child molestation. Bowers' bond was set at $50,000, cash or surety. In the news release, Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said the crime allegedly occurred in August when Bowers went to the victim's home when her parents weren't home and had sexual intercourse with her, remaining at the home for three hours. The sheriff's department became aware of the case when the victim's mother learned of the offense from her daughter and reported it to police, the news release said.
