Victim of several strokes needs assistance

Depression can strike anyone, but people with serious illnesses such as stroke may be at greater risk. Ms. T has had several strokes, is diabetic and has heart problems.

With Social Security as her only income, Ms. T lives with her daughter and two grandsons.

Some personal items that would make dressing a lot easier for Ms. T and her daughter who cares for her include extra-large sweats, blouses or sweaters, panties and pants; size 38C bras and large gloves.

Household items including full-sized sheets or comforter would also be helpful.

Single, working mom can only afford necessities

Janelle will work on Christmas Day just as she works the other 364 days of the year. She works part time while earning her degree in psychology at Southeast Missouri State University.

Even though she didn't work last year, her financial situation is about the same as because utilities have gone up.

"The only toys my children received last year were from Toybox," she said. "This year will be the same."

Janelle hasn't done any Christmas shopping and feels depressed about it because she can only afford to provide the necessities. She wants to buy gifts for her daughters but can't afford it.

The father of her children will not provide help, and Janelle's family cannot help with financial issues.

Five-year-old Chandler loves to watch "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and "Hannah Montana" on TV. DVDs or related items would make this the best Christmas ever for her.

Her mom said she likes to learn and dress up, too. She is a size 8 and could use underwear, jeans or a skirt. Socks are another suggestion.

A blackboard with chalk, a Leap Frog game or play dishes would also make nice gifts for Chandler.

Twelve-year-old Rhonda would like a Diva diary with FM radio, Totally Me Glitz and Glam, Crayola Masterworks art case, socks, gloves and a hat. Recent DVDs like "Ratatouille" and artists including Pretty Ricky are what Rhonda would consider really great gifts.

Both children also love hair accessories.
