NATHAN COOPER is not any better than anyone else. He broke the law. He knew what he was doing. He was a lawyer. He should have received the maximum sentence.
Another victim
I WISH Debra Manning's murder had been solved. She was not just the best friend to me growing up. She was a big sister. She was so intelligent. Any of us girls could go and talk to her when we needed to, and I loved her so much because she helped me through a lot of tough times. She was a sweet, good person. I don't understand how someone could be so unfeeling to hurt her like that and take her away from her family and all her loved ones and friends. She is sadly missed. It's still an open wound for everyone. I know the investigators are working as hard as they can. Please try to find justice for her family too.
Murders solved
THANK GOD they found the murderer of all those women in and around Cape Girardeau years ago.
Detective's work
I THINK we have an excellent police chief. I want to commend him on putting Jimmy Smith on those cold cases. I don't believe we could find a better detective anywhere.
Strong message
IN REFERENCE to Michael Vick's 23 convictions for dog fighting: I believe this sends two strong messages. One, no matter who or what you are, you are not above the law. Two, inhumane treatment of animals will not be tolerated.

Comparing sentences
ON THE front page of the paper was the article about Nathan Cooper getting 15 months for his part in an immigration fraud scheme. On Page 3 was a story about a man who stole one doughnut, was charged with robbery and has to serve 90 days in jail and will be on probation for five years. Where is the justice in this? It all depends on who you are.
Another murder
CONGRATULATIONS TO our police department. The police did a wonderful job in solving the cold murder cases. Now if someone could take care of the Bonnie Huffman murder, that would be fantastic.
Good detective
CAPE GIRARDEAU detective Jimmy Smith did a great job.
Stoplight warning
IT WOULD be a good safety measure to put up warning lights for the stoplight that's just west of I-55 on East Jackson Boulevard in Jackson. If you had warning lights about 50 yards before you get to the stop light, they would show if the stoplight is red and motorists would know that they're going to have to stop.
Misused word
I AM so glad the learn that the Parsh murders have finally been solved. The use of the term "slaughter" in the newspaper was such a misuse and probably a torturous word for Hank and Butch, the top police officials, and John Brown, the investigator. This was such a sad situation, and it was open for so long. It's wonderful that the man charged has been incarcerated and cannot continue his killing spree. But this should not be made worse by misuse of words such as "slaughtered." I'm also so glad to see that Scott County has reopened the Lawless case, because I think we all know the wrong person is incarcerated. I hope the sheriff's department and other investigators find the right person in that case.
