FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) -- A service station in suburban St. Louis leaked about 20,000 gallons of fuel from a tank pit, and cleanup is underway.

Emergency responders from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources were called to the scene Friday at a QuikTrip in Ferguson. Cleanup crews drained thousands of gallons of water and fuel from the tank pit and took steps to keep it out of a nearby sewer.

Explosive levels of gas were still in the sewer system yesterday. Crews have also placed absorbent materials in a waterway by Maline Creek that has been contaminated by the fuel.
