CHAFFEE, Mo. -- The city of Chaffee has hired a Jackson police lieutenant on a part-time basis to temporarily fill in as police chief. Rodney Barnes, a former Chaffee police officer and resident, will help the department with administrative duties, city administrator John Chadd said, until the city can find a person to replace Larry Corn, who resigned earlier this month. Chadd said the police board met Thursday to review some of the applications that have already come in. He said the city has received several applications. Corn and two officers submitted their resignations within a month's time. Chadd said the city has hired a full-time officer and a temporary part-time officer to handle the load. Kurt Hicks, a Chaffee resident who works with the Department of Corrections in Charleston, has agreed to work part-time.
