Dr. Thomas S. Messer Sr., 84, of Hattiesburg, Miss., formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at his home.

He was a retired minister and professor at Southeast Missouri State University. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hattiesburg.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Wheeler Gray Messer; a son, Dr. Thomas Messer Jr. of Hattiesburg; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to service time today at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Waynesboro Cemetery.
