EVERY TIME I feel like my hope is dwindling, God does a great job bringing his blessings into the lives of my family. Today, my wife, son and I received a generous donation from an anonymous member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. It was touching that they directed their donations toward families that have children with disabilities. Whoever you are, thank you very much for thinking of us during this Christmas season. You are proof that God still works miracles in the lives of his people.
SO NOW our new air service is pulling out next month. Does anybody really have enough faith to fly on that airline now that it is going bankrupt and has no long-term interest in our area? Does anybody really want to board one of those planes between now and the time the airline quits altogether? Cape Girardeau is going backward.
COULD SOMEONE please tell Congress that it has far more important things to fix than baseball's drug problems?
THE CHICKENS have come home to roost. For decades the successful Republican Southern strategy rested on pandering to and patronizing Christian evangelicals. Now one of them (Mike Huckabee) has perhaps more than an even chance of getting the GOP presidential nomination, and establishment Republicans are horrified. Serves them right.
St. Louis flights
I HOPE the powers that be will see the need to get an air carrier to resume flights to St. Louis instead of catering to one special interest.
BIG SKY is leaving the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport after a little over one month of service. Is anyone surprised? That was one of the worst decisions that has been made lately. If there needs to be daily flights from Cape Girardeau to Cincinnati, so be it. But there also needs to be flights for everyone else who travels out of St. Louis. Memphis would be another great spot to add. Let's go for more instead of less.
Fly to St. Louis
THE AIRPORT manager and the entire airport board need to go. I can't believe they couldn't figure this one out. I'm sure the airport manager is being paid his salary during this entire time. He thought flying to Cincinnati was a great idea and pushed it onto everyone else. Get him out. The only destination we could possibly go to would be St. Louis.
REGARDING THE annual pay the new president at the University of Missouri is getting: My goodness. No wonder our taxes are so high. There is nobody worth that much money. I don't care who it is. It is too much for the poor taxpayers.
I'LL TELL you what you could do with one of those old movie theaters on Broadway in Cape Girardeau, and it's gone well over in other locations. It's called a cinema grill. It's a restaurant that plays old movies. That goes over well. Take an old theater and convert it into a restaurant. Play classic movies while you eat.
I WAS shocked by the article on the state offices in Cape Girardeau. I could see the waste of money. Some of these offices need to be consolidated. Why aren't Child Support, the Department of Health, Family Support and the Children's Division together? They are in three separate locations. They are badly needed in one place for real service. I can't imagine the cost of utilities and what help that money would be toward these services.
