A.W. Landis, 82, of Hartselle, Ala., formerly of Dongola, Ill., died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at Decatur General Hospital in Decatur, Ala.

He was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Anna, Ill., to Willie E. and Mildred Nimmo Landis. He married Thelma Perkins Aug. 27, 1947.

He was ordained to the gospel ministry in 1950 and was loved and appreciated by the churches he pastored in Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky and Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during World War II aboard the USS Persephone.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Landis of Hartselle, Ala.; a daughter, Darlene (John) Waynick of Hartselle, Ala.; a son, Terry (Trudy) Landis of Austin, Texas; four sisters, Barbara Fisher of Dongola, Betty Gibbs and Roberta Middleton, both of Jonesboro, Ill., and Jean Middleton of Anna; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro.

Funeral services for the Rev. A. W. Landis will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro, with the Rev. Jack Redfearn and the Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery.
