Generous angel

I WANT to thank the woman I met in Walgreens Drug Store. I truly believe an angel was sent to me. I was getting my husband's prescriptions refilled, and she overheard how much they would cost. One was over $500. She gave me $400 and said that he needed his medicine and that it was crazy that something to keep you alive should cost so much. She even offered more, but I couldn't accept it. I was in tears and taken aback. I don't know this person, but she has no idea how grateful I am and will be for the rest of my life. I only hope that one day I can return the same favor for someone. God bless you, and I will forever keep you in my prayers.

Arson in the park

IT APPEARS we have an arsonist on our hands attempting to destroy Kiwanis Park. Today two portable toilets burned, doing a lot of damage to beautiful trees. The contents of a trash can in one shelter was burned, which could have resulted in the entire shelter destroyed. Being a frequent user of this gorgeous park, I could cite a number of other things I've seen that destroy its beauty for those that enjoy it. Is it possible for one of the committees focusing on community betterment to develop some plans to address these problems before our park is ruined?

Lenient laws

I SEE convicts on death row complaining about pain during lethal injections. Did they think about a pain-free death for the people they killed? Our laws are too lenient, and prisoners are too comfortable. Is the law on the criminals' side?

No influence

NEWS FLASH, Southeast Missourian: You can fill you front page with so-called dignitaries' pictures and who they endorse for president. I don't give a hoot. I will make up my own mind, and they will have no effect on my decision.

Ridiculous ban

I AM a nonsmoker. The recent ban on smoking in public places in Illinois, including bars, is ridiculous. Most of the people in bars are usually smoking. I wonder when it will hit Missouri? The government is taking too many rights away from us all the time. What's next?

Restaurant smoking

MY DAUGHTER and I ate at a restaurant in Cape Girar-deau. It was great food and a warm friendly place to relax and enjoy the decor. We noticed as we left that there were more people in the smoking section. I hope this freedom stays with us. Smokers pay high taxes to keep their butts in their mouths.
