The April election filing period for many cities, school districts and other boards throughout Southeast Missouri ends at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

But if candidates wish to file today, most will encounter some difficulty, as many city governments and schools have their offices closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday.

Filing opened Dec. 18 in most area voting districts. Posts up for election include mayors in Scott City, Oran, Mo., Perryville, Mo., Morley, Mo., and Marble Hill, Mo.
