Jackson police apprehended two suspects Tuesday evening following a narcotics investigation involving three other law enforcement agencies.

A controlled buy was set up through members of the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force for the purchase of marijuana from Adam Beck, 28, of Cape Girardeau and Dawn Musgraves, 30, of Jackson.

The transaction took place in the parking lot of the Cape Girardeau McDonald's on William Street.

After the buy was completed, officers followed Beck and Musgraves to Jackson and attempted to stop the vehicle in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart in Jackson.

When the suspects refused to yield to the police vehicle, a short car pursuit followed before Beck took off running from the car near Murphy Oil in Jackson. Officers gave chase on foot in an attempt to apprehend Beck.

A Jackson officer suffered a minor knee injury in the scuffle that ensued and eventually had to discharge his Taser to stop the suspect's attempts to flee, said Capt. Robert Bonney,

Even then, Beck struggled as several officers assisted in the arrest, Bonney said.

According to a news release, Beck finally gave up, and confessed during a subsequent interview with police to selling and possessing marijuana and fleeing police.

Both suspects were charged with distribution of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Beck is also charged with felony resisting arrest and has two outstanding warrants for probation violations.

Both are in custody at the Cape Girardeau County Jail. Bond for Beck is set at $50,000 cash only. Musgraves is held on a $10,00 cash or surety bond.

Beck currently has a driving while intoxicated charge pending and is on probation for possession of a controlled substance.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department, Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force and Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation.
