The Southeast Missouri State softball team was picked to finish sixth in the Ohio Valley Conference by the conference's softball coaches.

The Redhawks garnered 40 points. Tennessee Tech was picked to repeat as champions with 79 points, while Jacksonville State was picked to finish second with 71 points.

The Redhawks open their season Feb. 14 against Jackson State in Jackson, Miss. They begin OVC play March 15 at Eastern Kentucky.

Southeast posted a 20-29 record last season.

The Southeast men's track and field team swept the weekly OVC honors after competing at the Saluki Booster Invitational.

Long jumper John Berry, a junior, was named the male field athlete of the week. Dustin Davis, a freshman, was named co-male track athlete of the week.

Berry posted a long jump of 24-1.50 to win the event, while Davis took second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8 minutes, 47.33 seconds.

Eastern Illinois' Kevin Adamowski shared the track honor with Davis.
