Six tractor-trailers and two recreational vehicles were overturned on Interstate 55 during the storm, according the Scott County Sheriff's Department.

MoDOT has received numerous reports of weather-related accidents reducing lanes and stopping traffic.

Traffic on northbound I-55 is being detoured at exit 80 at Benton in Scott County. Southbound I-55 is also being detoured at exit 40 at Marston in New Madrid County.

Additional accidents have been reported along I-55 near exit 67 at Miner to Interstate 57 that have slowed traffic while the area is cleared.

Motorists are urged to use extreme caution in the area and be alert for debris covering the roadway.

Two reports of funnel clouds in Cape Girardeau County remain unconfirmed.
