The flip side; Make a choice; Broken system; Not fooling everyone

The flip side

IN RESPONSE to the "Happy teacher" comment: It must be nice that you and every teacher friend you have get home shortly after school to start supper, supervise your children and help with their homework, leaving you the whole rest of the night for family time. However, there are a lot of us who are not married and do not have a dual income and are raising children solely on our income. We cannot decide to stay or go home after school, as many of us are scrambling to reach our second job, leaving our children without supper, supervision or homework help until much later in the night. We are not greedy. We work to keep our children clothed and fed. Our children do not have private lessons of any kind or have cars to drive. And, we don't take vacations. Please be aware that there are others out there who are barely surviving on a teacher's salary.

Make a choice

I KNEW after the teacher called in and said things weren't so bad for teachers there would be whining from other teachers. I live next door to a school. Except for the coaches and the students participating in sports, the parking lot is completely empty 95 percent of the time by 3:30 p.m. There are not many teachers staying until 5 p.m. There are two kinds of people in the world: those who accept the fact that their jobs include extra hours and sacrifices of their time, and those who want to complain about their situation. I have worked all of my life. I know if I am not happy with my life I am the only one who can change it. Take responsibility for yourself. All people have challenges. It is what you choose to do about it that makes the difference.

Broken system

EVERYONE IS going out of his way to accommodate people who don't come here legally, but you can't get a break if you are an honest citizen who works his butt of for years, is disabled and has to fight Social Security to get back the money I paid in to it. Methinks the Social Security System needs to be audited.

Not fooling everyone

IT IS wonderful almost beyond words to say that the American people have begun to realize the ridiculousness of what some call Reaganomics and other clever shamans shamelessly try to dignify by deeming it supply-side economics.
