ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) -- St. Joseph police say officers shot a man after he and two other men robbed a McDonald's restaurant by crawling through the drive-up window.

Three Kansas City-area men are in custody, and one of them is being treated for a gunshot wound to the thigh.

Police Commander Jim Connors says officers pursued the robbers' vehicle, then chased the men on foot when they abandoned the vehicle on the Missouri Western State University campus.

Connors says the suspects ran into a nearby wooded area. Officers shot one of the men while taking him into custody.

Connors would not say whether the suspects shot at police.

Witnesses say workers at the McDonald's were held captive for a short time during the robbery early Thursday.
