The National Weather Service is warning some people in Southeast Missouri that icy precipitation could last through Friday morning.

The weather service issued a statement on the winter weather late this afternoon saying freezing rain and sleet is expected to pick up overnight in the Cape Girardeau, Perry and Bollinger County areas of Southeast Missouri and Union County in Southern Illinois.

Places further south, like Stoddard and Scott counties in Missouri and Alexander County in Southern Illinois should see ice change to rain after midnight as warmer air moves in.

The wintry precipitation for Cape Girardeau and parts north could last until noon Friday, the weather service said.

Temperatures will be around freezing tonight but rising, with Friday's high forecast in the mid-30s.
