ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) -- Three St. Joseph School District students are in trouble with the law over an incident involving drugs this week.

Buchanan County Juvenile authorities expected Friday to charge two middle school girls with delivery of a controlled substance, a felony. The 16-year-old boy who gave one of the girls methadone was charged Thursday with delivery of a controlled substance.

All three are in juvenile detention.

Nine girls were taken to a hospital Wednesday after ingesting methadone pills. Police believe the boy gave the pills to one girl, and that she distributed them to other girls.

The boy was taken into custody Wednesday night.

An attorney in the juvenile office says that Missouri law would allow the three to be charged as adults.
