Barry County authorities said an autopsy found air in the baby's lungs, indicating the child was born alive.

A 16-year-old girl from the small southwest Missouri town of Seligman is being detained by the county juvenile office in connection with the case.

The girl was admitted to a hospital last week in Bentonville, Ark., for excessive bleeding. The hospital called police to report that she may have given birth before being brought in.

Sheriff's deputies found the newborn's body in a closet of the girl's home.
