Transportation public meetings set for April 8

The Delta Regional Authority is holding a series of public meetings to discuss transportation issues that will include a session on the Southeast Missouri State University campus. The meeting, which will begin at 10 a.m. April 8 in Glenn Auditorium of Dempster Hall, is designed to bring forth ideas on highways, aviation, rail service and waterways. The meetings are designed to build on work completed last year with the Delta Development Highway System. The Delta Regional Authority was created in 2000 and covers 240 counties in eight states of the Mississippi River Delta.

Two businesses to hold ribbon cuttings Tuesday

The Jackson Chamber of Commerce announced two ribbon cuttings Tuesday for new or relocated businesses. At 1 p.m. Tuesday, there will be a ribbon cutting for Little Hoppers Day Care, 234 N. Sprigg St., in Cape Girardeau and at 2 p.m. Tuesday there will be a ribbon cutting for the new location of the Edward Jones office of Cheryl Mothes at 2820 E. Jackson Blvd. in Jackson.

Learn to build a quality internship program

Career linkages at Southeast Missouri State University and the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a training seminar from 8 to 9:30 a.m. April 8 on building and maintaining a quality internship program with an emphasis on designing a program that benefits a business while helping the student gain the experience they are seeking. To participate, contact Lynn Winslow at 335-3312.

Classes on financial management planned

The Small Business Development Center of the University of Missouri Extension Service will offer a three-part series of classes on financial management at the extension center at 684 W. Jackson Trail in Jackson. The classes, at 6 p.m. on April 17, April 24 and May 1, require pre-registration and are limited to 30 participants. The classes will cover financial statements, cash flow and predicting future cash needs and will be presented by Craig Bohnsack of Alliance Bank.
