PICKERING, Mo. (AP) -- One man is stabbed to death and another is in custody after an altercation in a northwest Missouri town late last night.

Nodaway County sheriff's deputies said Monday the incident took place in the driveway of a home in Pickering, north of Maryville. Authorities say 29-year-old Steven Sapp of Tarkio turned himself in early Monday. Charges are pending.

He's suspected of fatally stabbing 40-year-old Steven Leach of Maryville late Sunday.

Deputies say Sapp pulled a pocketknife and began to stab Leach, cutting a major artery in his left arm and resulting in massive blood loss. Sapp sped off in his pickup truck but crashed a short distance away.
