To the editor:

I am tired of the Missourian publishing David Limbaugh's historical inaccuracies.

First, the primary Framers of the U.S. Constitution, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, were not Christians. They were adamantly anti-Christian intellectuals. The references to God were to a rational, Deist concept of God, not Christianity. There are many different concepts of God. They are not all Christian.

Second, the Founders did not intend for many categories of people to have equal rights, including women and African slaves.

In spite of this, people have fought valiantly for equal civil rights and the realization of constitutional ideals during the course of the last 200 years. Would Limbaugh's strict adherence to the precise intentions of the Founders mean that he is prepared to defend slavery and the status of women as property?

Now is clearly the historical moment for gay people to assert their rights as promised in the ideals and spirit of the Constitution, especially in the 14th Amendment.

Limbaugh's lame arguments may work on the uneducated and unthinking, but not on me.

Finally, I am constantly amazed at how people who call themselves Christians can be so intolerant and even hateful toward others who are different. Does anyone actually believe this is following Jesus? God made us all. He loves us all.
