While the high school basketball season winds down this weekend, the spring sports calendar is already here with the start of high school girls swimming.

Notre Dame and Central will get their dual schedules under way with a meet at 4 p.m. today at the Central Municipal Pool. This will mark the first meet of any kind for Notre Dame, while Central competed at the Marquette Relays over the weekend.

Notre Dame's girls will feature a young lineup, with only one senior and five upper classmen on the roster. Out of 19 Notre Dame swimmers, nine are freshmen. Top returnees for the Bulldogs include sophomores Lauren Bader, Ashly Ducharme, Kristin Enderle and Mollie Messmer, as well as senior Janelle Essner.

For the Tigers, who finished eighth at the Marquette Relays, diver Jackie Erlacker returns as one of Central's top performers. Erlacker finished 38th in diving last season at the state meet.

Millham wins award

Ashley Millham, a freshman basketball player at Central Missouri State University, was honored recently as the MIAA Freshman of the Year.

Millham, Notre Dame Regional High School's all-time leading scorer, averaged 11.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and had 132 assists throughout 27 regular season games. The Jennies season ended March 4 with a 65-58 loss to Northwest Missouri State. Central Missouri finished 15-13.

MVC all-conference team

The Mississippi Valley Conference recently released its all-conference boys basketball team.

All-conference members included Brandon Davis (Chaffee), Terry Wagner (Meadow Heights), Austin Morrison (Oak Ridge), Tim Lorenz (Saxony Lutheran), Curt Wiseman (Zalma), Josh King (Marquand), Brandon Bueter (Leopold), Lucas Horrell (Leopold), Brent Menz (Delta) and Zack Kelley (Delta).

Brad Adams (Meadow Heights), Terry Bogenpohl (Oak Ridge), Austin Hahs (Oak Ridge), Trey Maevers (Saxony Lutheran) and Casey Petzoldt (Saxony Lutheran) were honorable mention all-conference.

St. Vincent players honored

A total of seven players from St. Vincent High School's basketball teams made the Jefferson County All-Conference team.

Junior Alex Armbruster was selected first team and fellow junior Denny Rellergert made second team. Jacob DeWilde, also a junior, received honorable mention.

Sierra Paulus, a junior was named first team for the girls. Seniors Rachel Hadler, Amanda Caron and Allison Prost received honorable mentions.

College notes

Three Rivers Community College out of Poplar Bluff moved on to the national tournament with a 82-52 win over Moberly Area Community College on March 6. Three Rivers is the No. 7 seed in the national tournament held in Helias, Kan. The Raiders will play East Central Community College out of Mississippi at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Freshman Rebecca Cook, a Delta graduate, is averaging nearly five points a game for the 26-5 Raiders.

The Quincy University women's basketball team won its regional tournament Monday with a 66-49 victory over Lake Superior State. Freshman Alex Wieser, a Central graduate, and sophomore Deana McCormick, a Notre Dame graduate, both had four points in the win. Quincy (29-4) advances to the Division IIElite Eight next week in St. Joseph, Mo.
