County chapter of AARP meeting on Monday

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP No. 4041 will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church, Broadway and Caruthers. The program, "The River Campus," will be presented by board member Ruth Knote. There will be a drawing for a door prize.

Candidates to address Republican women's club

The Cape County Republican Women's Club will begin with lunch at 11:45 a.m. Friday at the Grecian Steak House in Cape Girardeau. This month's guests will feature the candidates for the 158th District House of Representatives. They will explain their qualifications, discuss their plans if elected and give reasons for running for this state position. Cape Girardeau Public Library activities set

The Cape Girardeau Public Library, located at 711 N. Clark, has announced several upcoming events. They include: Great Decisions 2004 meetings set for 2 p.m. Thursdays. The schedule features: April 1, Muslim Diversity: Its Challenges to U.S. Policy; April 8, U.S.-Latin American Relations After 9-11. Also, a ReadMOre author will visit the library for a luncheon from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday. Books (Mississippi Solo) available for sale now at the reference desk. In continuation of the I Can Be... series, Sharon Anderson youth services coordinator of Cape Girardeau Public Library, will discuss the joys of being a librarian at 3:30 p.m. April 7. A story and homemade book filled with favorite things are on the agenda. The morning book discussion will meet at 10 a.m. April 9 to discuss "Vinegar Hill," by A. Manette Ansay.

Riverside Regional Library plans special events

The Riverside Regional Library has announced a schedule of area activities for the month of April. The Jackson branch will hold an Easter theme storytime at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Bring your Easter basket. The Easter bunny will make an appearance. An after-school adventure will take place at 3:30 p.m. April 8 for grades three to five. Craft will include using stamps to make bookmarks and cards. The Scott City branch will have storytime at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Perryville branch will have storytime at 10 a.m. April 7. The Altenburg branch will have storytime at 1:30 p.m. April 7.

Zonta Club flea market scheduled for April 24

The Cape Girardeau area Zonta Club will sponsor a flea market from 7 to 11 a.m. April 24 at Centenary United Methodist Church activities building at 300 N. Ellis. Concessions available. Proceeds fund community projects.

Fish For a Wish benefit taking place in June

The fourth annual Fish For a Wish fund raiser, an outdoor fish fry fund-raising event, will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. June 12 at Cape County Park North Pavilion No. 4. At this time support in the form of food, auction items, gift certificates, cash donations or volunteer hours are being sought. Fish For a Wish is a Muscular Dystrophy Association fund raiser that helps by contributing to research expenses. Call 335-4400 for further information.
