MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- Central won the girls division and placed 10th in the boys division to claim the overall title at the Heartland Invitational track and field meet on Saturday.

Central's girls scored scored 104 points and Jackson was third with 86.50.

The Tigers had four champions: Dani Gross (long jump), Maggie Limbaugh (pole vault), Holly Shaffer (800 meters) and the 3,200 relay team. Relay members were Jennifer Pancoast, Stephanie Wehner, Linnea Woldtvedt and Shaffer.

Jackson's Audrey Stanfield won the triple jump and was named the meet's outstanding field performer. Other winners for the Indians were Rebecca Martin in the shot put and the 400 relay team of Martin, Jenna Holten, Rachel Kahle and Trisha Kluesner.

Jarred Harris had Central's top finish on the boys side with a second in the pole vault.GIRLS

The Bulldogs used a six-run sixth inning to rally for a win at the Festus Tournament.

Lee Essner had a three-run inside the park home run with two outs to give Notre Dame (5-2) a 12-11 lead. Herculaneum had scored five runs in the sixth to take an 11-6 lead.

Essner pitched the seventh inning to get the save. Jeremy Brinkmeyer pitched 1 2/3 innings for the win.

Brinkmeyer added three hits and Essner also had three hits. Jaocb Essner added two hits.

City of Roses Invitational

Host Central finished fifth and Notre Dame was sixth during the 11-team meet held at Central Municipal Pool.

Springfield Glendale won with 404 points and Ft. Zumwalt West was second with 372.50. Central had 230 and Notre Dame 185.50.

Central's top finisher was Cassie Kipper in the 200 individual medley. Kipper finished third in 2:23.78, just short of a state cut. Jackie Erlacker also finished third in diving.

Kipper also finished fifth in the 100 free. Hannah Kinder was Central's other top individual with a fifth in the 100 back.

For Notre Dame, Ashly Ducharme was second in the 500 freestyle. She also wsa seventh in the 200 IM and and swam on two relays that placed sixth.Team results

Kickapoo Tournament

Jackson finished the Kickapoo Tournament 0-2-1 with a loss and a tie on the second day of the tournament. Jackson (4-3-1) lost its morning game 2-0 to Columbia Rockbridge, but came back to tie Kickapoo 1-1. Whitney Dietl scored Jackson's goal on an assist from Molly Hartmann.

Central (4-4) finished sixth at the tournament with a 1-2 record.

The Tigers onSunday beat Kickapoo 2-1 in double overtime with goals by Heidi Pilsner and MeganOrr. They lost 2-1 to Rock Bridge. Laura Burdick scored for the Tigers.

Notre Dame 1, Trinity 1

Amanda Dirnberger scored midway through the first, but Notre Dame could not hold on at home.

Destiny Dirnberger had the assist for Notre Dame (6-0-1). Katie Palmer had nine saves in goal, but could not stop a shot off a corner with less than 10 minutes to go in regulation.
