William and Deborah Schaefer of Marion, Ky., formerly of Jackson, announce the engagement of their daughter, Gretchen Sarah Schaefer, to Carlton Arlen Jamison Jr. of Quantico, Va. He is the son of Denise Spolerich and Carl and Susan Jamison of Livermore, Calif.

Schaefer served five years as a diesel mechanic with the U.S. Navy Seabees.
